Turkish Cement Company Releases "2023 Sustainability Report"

Foreks - TÜRKÇİMENTO, with 68 members including 52 integrated plants and 16 grinding facilities, has detailed sustainability-focused developments in the industry as well as environmental, social, and governance data in this report. The report also indicates that sustainability efforts are conducted by the Sustainability Focus Group within TÜRKÇİMENTO. Furthermore, data from a plant operating in Turkey that is not a member has been included, providing sustainability performance data for a total of 53 plants.

Sustainability Efforts in the Cement Sector Gained Momentum Fatih Yücelik, Chairman of the Board of TÜRKÇİMENTO, stated regarding the report: “We consider sustainability as a principle at the center of our activities and place great importance on conducting our practices in this direction. We are determined to minimize our environmental impacts by taking into account effects such as natural resource consumption, energy use, and carbon dioxide emissions in cement production.”

Impacts of CBAM and TSR Standards on the Sector The report also addresses the Turkish cement sector’s process of complying with important regulations such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the Turkish Sustainability Reporting Standards (TSR). It is anticipated that the impacts of CBAM will become increasingly significant, and it was noted that in 2023, TÜRKÇİMENTO members’ environmental investments increased threefold while renewable energy investments doubled.
