TREPAŞ Facilitates the "Green Transformation" of 612 Million kWh of Electricity

Foreks - Trakya Electricity Retail Sales Inc. (TREPAŞ), which serves over 1 million customers in the Thrace region and holds a significant market share among major industrial enterprises and commercial groups throughout Turkey, also supplies electricity to many public institutions and contributes to the green transformation of its clients.

TREPAŞ facilitates its customers in obtaining the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC), an international certification system developed by RECs International that certifies that the electricity is produced from renewable energy sources. To date, TREPAŞ has contributed to the supply of 612 million kWh of electricity from green energy sources.

"Equivalent to the Average Monthly Electricity Consumption of 4 Million Residential Subscribers" S. Burak Savaş, General Manager of TREPAŞ, stated that they play a facilitating role in the process for industrial and commercial customers who wish to consume environmentally friendly electricity for the construction of a sustainable future. He said, "Through our company, our industrial and commercial customers have been able to meet 612 GWh of electricity consumption from green energy so far, which is equivalent to the average monthly electricity consumption of 4 million residential subscribers. There is particularly strong demand for I-REC among the textile, food, automotive, metallurgy, and cement sectors. Companies that obtain I-REC can prove that their electricity consumption is supplied 100% from renewable energy sources. With this certification, companies document their commitment to green energy and environmentally friendly production processes according to international standards. In a process where climate change affects the future of the world, we are very pleased to be alongside our customers in such an important area and to provide them with this service."

“Provides Many Advantages” Savaş also noted that renewable energy certificates offer advantages, especially for those trading with the European Union (EU), and continued: "The EU's Border Carbon Adjustment Mechanism (BCAM), which was enacted to reduce carbon emissions, further increases the importance of the I-REC certificate. This mechanism imposes additional taxes on products produced outside the EU that exceed the specified carbon emission limits. I-REC offers a supportive solution to our industrialists in this process and helps them reduce their carbon footprint and environmental impact. By purchasing I-REC certificates, companies can reduce their carbon footprint from electricity consumption and thus more easily fulfill their carbon obligations under the BCAM while also contributing to the energy transition process."
