Supermarket Sales in Japan Decline by 1.3% in October
Foreks - In Japan, the sales of chain stores have declined in October, following two consecutive months of increase. According to the Japan Chain Store Association (JCSA), sales in October decreased by 1.3% compared to the same month last year, after a 1.0% year-on-year increase in the previous month. Compared to the previous month, sales showed a 2.9% increase, bringing the total revenue of chain stores down to 102.4 billion yen.
Using data that excluded changes in the number of stores, supermarket sales experienced an annual decrease of 1.1%. Year-on-year, sales of food products increased by 2.4%, while clothing sales saw a decline of 10.6%, and household goods sales fell by 1.0%. The figures are based on prices from 9,296 stores operated by 47 companies. The number of stores decreased by 5 compared to the previous month and by 1,517 compared to the same month last year.
