Chairperson Gönül: We're Working to Curb Information Spread Through Social Media Platforms Under the Guise of Tips or Similar Names

Forex - The Chairman of the Capital Markets Board (CMB), İbrahim Ömer Gönül, stated, "We are trying to prevent the spread of information disseminated through social media platforms under the guise of tips or similar names." In his speech at the "Financial Literacy Turkey Campaign Adana 2024" program held at Çukurova University Mithat Özsan Amphitheater, Gönül mentioned that the target audience for financial literacy includes youth, housewives, and those who are not finance professionals.

Gönül emphasized their goal to increase the financial literacy level of all segments of society and noted that they share information on analyzing the risks in the stock market during the meetings held. He said, "We are trying to prevent the spread of information disseminated through social media platforms under the guise of tips or similar names."

CMB Chairman Gönül mentioned that they have prepared a platform accessible to everyone from ages 7 to 77 to promote financial literacy across the country. He explained that they have created videos to explain financial literacy in various fields. "When you enter this platform, you first encounter a 20-question test. While preparing this platform, we said that this portal should also benefit those who complete the training. It has become the first platform in Turkey to provide a Financial Literacy Certificate. This is very significant because obtaining this Financial Literacy Certificate will add value to you, especially if you wish to work in the finance sector. In addition to the Financial Literacy Platform, we collaborate with our universities. We have also made protocols with our ministries, İŞKUR, KOSGEB, and the Upper Organization of Organized Industrial Zones. We are making every effort to pave the way for those who receive this training. That’s why I particularly recommend completing these trainings and obtaining your certificate. Don’t see this just as a gateway to a job; if you can manage your money, you can manage your life."

Gönül added: "As the Capital Markets Board, our main job is to protect the investor and ensure the proper functioning of the market. We are particularly trying to prevent the spread of information disseminated through social media platforms under the guise of tips or similar names. But we know that if your financial literacy is not high enough, it is possible to fall into these traps. That's why we want you to be investors rather than just players. We attach great importance to entering the stock market as an investor."

"Definitely obtain the Financial Literacy Certificate."

Gönül emphasized the project for the Capital Markets Board Finance Anatolian Vocational and Technical High School, which is the first and only school in its field in Turkey, is being designed in Istanbul. "It will be a vocational school that genuinely teaches finance and trains employees for the finance sector. We will also have a Finance Academy. Hopefully, after university graduation, the Finance Academy will present a significant step on the path to becoming a capital markets professional," he concluded.
