Japan's Prime Minister Election Heads to Runoff; Ishiba Expected to Hold His Seat
Forex - Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru received the most support in the first round of voting in parliament. Ishiba received 221 votes in the lower house of parliament but was unable to secure the majority needed to prevent a second vote for the prime ministership for the first time in 30 years. Ishiba is expected to win the second vote against the leader of the main opposition party, Yoshihiko Noda, due to divisions within the opposition camp and the decision of a significant minor party to vote for its own leader.
