Title: Energy Consumption in Road Transport Reached a Total of 1,145,054 Terajoules in 2022
In road transportation, total energy consumption reached 1 million 145 thousand 54 terajoules. It was stated that: "In road transportation, total energy consumption was 1 million 145 thousand 54 terajoules. According to the results of the Transport Sector Final Energy Consumption Research, the final energy consumption in road transportation in 2022 was 1 million 145 thousand 54 terajoules. By the types of fuels consumed, 74.6% of total energy consumption was diesel; 14.2% was LPG, 11.0% was gasoline, and 0.2% was other fuels. In 2022, the final energy consumed in road transportation was 39.1% by cars, 28.6% by trucks, 18.4% by vans, and 8.9% by buses."
In railway transportation, total energy consumption reached 10 thousand 84 terajoules. In railway transportation, final energy consumption in 2022 amounted to 10 thousand 84 terajoules. According to the shares of energy sources, the share of diesel in energy consumption was 52.2%, while the share of electricity was 47.8%. In railway transportation in 2022, diesel consumption increased by 16.8% compared to the previous year, while electricity consumption rose by 13.7%. The final electricity consumption of high-speed trains increased by 76.3%, and the consumption of trams and subways rose by 13.2%.
The Transport Sector Final Energy Consumption Statistics Research was conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute using administrative record data for road and rail transportation. Energy consumption data for maritime and air transportation were not included.
With this bulletin, which is published for the first time, statistics on the consumption of energy sources in detail for road and rail transportation are presented. Statistics related to final energy consumption are included in tables attached to the newsletter, detailed in terajoules (TJ) and original units.
